Before you begin

1. Open the action

Open the encounter. Use one of these entry points:

Note: If the encounter is Inpatient and you did not discharge the patient yet, MANSOQ does not show the confirmation dialog. MANSOQ opens the encounter form with the discharge already selected. Complete the discharge first.

2. Confirm the action

MANSOQ shows the dialog Mark as Complete. The dialog asks "Are you sure you would like to mark this encounter as complete?".

Select Mark as Complete to confirm. Press Enter to confirm. Select Cancel or press Escape to close the dialog.

Permissions

Permission Access
Update Encounter non clinical Lets you mark the encounter as complete. Administrator, Doctor, Nurse and Facility Administrator have this permission.

Expected Outcome

After the encounter closes, nobody can change it. Nobody can record new clinical data on it. The encounter stays available to read. To open the encounter again, see Restart an Encounter.

Note: The same lock applies to the statuses Cancelled, Discontinued and Entered in error.

Version and facility configuration

This procedure is grounded in the repository’s version 3.1 user guide and the audited source revision. Available encounter types, required demographics, terminology, permissions and enabled services depend on your facility configuration. Use the labels and access controls on your own instance; the source references below identify the documented implementation.

Troubleshooting

The completion action opens discharge details

For an inpatient encounter that has not been discharged, finish the discharge details before completing the encounter.
