Apply shared workflows in a laboratory

Use the canonical Laboratory classification with the verified shared configuration and care workflows; identify specialist requirements that still need validation.

Before you begin

Your organization has approved the facility classification and clinical scope.
An authorized administrator can create or update the facility and its related configuration.

1. Classify the laboratory

Choose Laboratory in Facility Type. The version-2 native code is 14; version 1 uses code 10. Confirm the contract version for imports rather than copying an old numeric code.

2. Configure the test catalogue

Create activity definitions for the laboratory services and connect the required observation and specimen definitions. Observation definitions establish the values and components expected in a report; specimen requirements establish collection and handling context.

3. Establish patient and order context

The documented service-request workflow requires a registered patient and an encounter at the facility. Search the patient first, open the appropriate encounter, and order the configured activity definition. A standalone external-order intake path is not established by the facility-type catalogue.

4. Collect and process the specimen

Open the service request, record collection details and identifiers, print the required specimen labels and record any processing steps through the shared specimen screens.

5. Create and release the result

Enter diagnostic observations and any attachments, verify the report status and follow the facility review/release policy. Final diagnostic observations cannot be edited through the ordinary observation-update action. Print the approved report when required.

Specialist SOP boundary

Analyzer connectivity, external referral-lab intake, accreditation-specific QC, critical-result acknowledgment and laboratory-only billing rules require separate integration and clinical validation. The Laboratory label does not prove these capabilities are configured.

Classification evidence

The English label is Laboratory and the Arabic label is مختبر. This is one of the five canonical setup contract types. The catalogue does not define a separate clinical workflow implementation for this type.

Local address limitation

The audited FacilityForm uses a required six-digit numeric PIN Code validator. This is a known local-address limitation for deployments that require a different postcode format. Do not invent a postcode to bypass validation; have the deployment owner resolve the address configuration.

Troubleshooting

The expected clinical service is missing after choosing the type

Review the configured departments, activity definitions, forms, resource schedules, user roles and enabled encounter classes. The facility classification alone does not establish those records.
